According to a new study conducted by researchers from the Center for Scalable Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence, Germany’s Leipzig University, and Bauhaus-University Weimar, according to Gizmodo, spam websites and low-quality content are making their way into Google’s product search results. This information was published by Gizmodo.
The research paper with the title “Is Google Getting Worse? A Longitudinal Investigation of SEO Spam in Search Engines” states that product searches are becoming more difficult for the largest search engine in the world. This is due to the fact that researchers discovered that any kind of helpful information is constantly being drowned out in search results by an abundance of content of poor quality, particularly for product searches.
When such inquiries were conducted, a significant number of results were obtained, all of which were obviously spam-driven search engine optimization (SEO) product reviews.
According to Mashable, the participants in this study looked at 7,392 different product-review search keywords that were conducted on Google, Bing, and DuckDuckGo over the course of a year. According to reports, the findings were unambiguous in that the pages that achieved the highest ranks were more optimized, contained a greater number of affiliate connections, and contained information of a lesser quality overall.
The said paper did, however, reveal that there was some progress in Google results between the beginning and the end of the researchers’ investigation. This is despite the fact that it does prove to be a negative appearance for Google.
Based on the findings of the investigation, it was determined that Google performed far better than DuckDuckGo and Bing. For additional information, Gizmodo states that it was notified by a representative of Google that the research did not accurately portray Google’s overall performance.
Google’s Response
A spokesman from Google stated, in reaction to the research, that it was limited in scope and did not represent the overall caliber and utility of Search for the billions of searches that Google users encounter on a regular basis. This information was reported by the Telegraph.
The study itself makes the observation that Google has improved over the course of the previous year and is currently beating other search engines. Furthermore, the company asserts that it has successfully adopted particular improvements in order to handle these challenges.
In a more general sense, the spokesperson claimed that a number of independent parties have conducted research on search engine results for a variety of inquiries and found that Google is noticeably superior to the other search engines.

Rampant SEO Spam
Nevertheless, the Germans found that the quality of the text was generally declining across all three search engines that were utilized in their research. A warning was kept in the report that this problem is only going to become more severe as a result of spam generated by artificial intelligence.
Gizmodo states that search engine optimization (SEO) spam is still being used to assist in the promotion of content, indicating that it is widespread. According to reports, Google encourages search engine optimization (SEO) by offering guidance to websites who are looking to improve their performance. The company’s objective is to present users with the best and most outstanding results possible.
In spite of this, the research asserts that trash websites have been able to circumvent the algorithms used by search engines in order to promote content of low quality. This is due to the fact that statistics and studies reveal that Google, along with the search engine sector as a whole, is experiencing significant issues in terms of SEO content.
According to the most recent report from Mashable, Search Engine Land asserted that Google was subjected to a “massive spam attack” in December 2023, which lasted for a number of days.
